Avascular Necrosis and ONFH

Avascular necrosis, also known as osteonecrosis, is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Older populations are at risk for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), which is the death of bone tissue at the head of the femur. In the past, the treatment for advanced ONFH was frequently to wait until the condition became bad enough to replace the hip joint. Early treatment focuses on pain management while slowing the progression of bone destruction.

Osteonecrosis Treatment Without a Hip Replacement

Recent medical innovations have created more effective orthopedic options for treating ONFH, which result in decreased pain, require a shorter recuperation period, and are less expensive. Cell tissue from the patient’s body is at the center of new treatment for avascular necrosis.
